Kaw Point Park in Kansas City, KS Named Finalist in 8 Wonders of Kansas Geography
The Kansas Sampler Foundation announced the 24 finalists for the 8 Wonders of Kansas Geography contest including Kansas City, Kansas’ very own Kaw Point Park. Kaw Point Park (1 River City Dr. Kansas City, KS 66115) has only recently developed as a public park. It commemorates the Lewis and Clark Expedition that stopped at the point in 1804. Kaw Point Park provides a compelling view of the confluence of the Kansas and Missouri Rivers and the Kansas City, Missouri skyline.
A selection committee chose the 24 finalists from a list of 76 public nominations. Voting has started and will continue until February 17 at midnight. The public may vote for their top eight online at www.8wonders.org or by paper ballot. One e‐mail address may be used three times to vote. Paper ballots can be picked up at the Kansas City Kansas – Wyandotte County Convention and Visitors Bureau office located at 727 Minnesota Ave. Kansas City, KS or by calling 620‐585‐2374. Public vote will determine the top 8 Wonders of Kansas Geography.
The purpose of the contest is to educate the world about everything Kansas has to offer and increase travel to the state. The Geography contest is one in a series organized by the Inman‐based Kansas Sampler Foundation. Previously, the top 8 Wonders have been decided in areas such as architecture, art, commerce, cuisine, and customs. After Geography, the focus will be on History, and People.
